A very beautiful Walker and Hall silver photograph easel frame. The floral cut work with chasing & repousse on a blue, repainted, background. Sheffield Assay Office year mark for 1900.
The silver hallmarks signify (reading left to right): Crown for Sheffield (town); Lion Passant for Sterling (quality); small "h" for 1900 (year); "W&H" in a pennant for Walker and Hall (maker).
Size: 6 1/2 inches / 16.5 cm tall, approximately. The image window is 3 3/32 x 2 inches / 8 x 5 cm, approximately.
Composition: Solid Silver
This lovely Walker and Hall silver photograph frame is of a decorative quality that is in short supply. The gorgeous floral cut work with chasing and repousse curlicues is set against an intense azure blue stippled background.
Condition: the silver is in good condition. The silver facing was originally held in place by six tiny pins, removable for cleaning. These have been lost, a long time ago I fear, and were at some time replaced by a thick layer of a dark composition which covered the original navy blue velvet. The composition has shrunk and cracked and no longer adheres. It has been stippled in bright blue. The silver is now held in place by four small pads of a removable, non-setting adhesive product, one at each corner, and displays beautifully. With a little attention from a professional jeweller, this frame would be fit for a princess.
